Katadyn TRK Gravidyn Drip Filter
No pumping required, great for groups, utilitzes a ceramic filter with carbon

The Katadyn TRK Gravidyn uses gravity pressure to produce up to 13 gallons of crystal clear water per day (depending on initial water quality). Water drips from the upper compartment to the lower compartment via THREE 0.2 micron ceramic and carbon filters. When you are required to boil water by your health department due to contamination in the water source (this is happening more and more these days, even without a serious disaster) or when you must use water from a lake, pond or even a rain barrel, this is just the filter to have. It eliminates the need to boil the water because it filters out all the bacteria and protozoa like e.Coli, cryptosporidium and giardia.

The Gravidyn drip filter comes with three ceramic filter elements that have an activated carbon core. Ceramic filters have a micro porous structure with impregnated silver which delays the growth of bacteria. The pore-size of Katadyn ceramic part of the filters is 0.2 micron (0.0002 mm). Bacteria range in size from 0.2 to 5 micron and protozoa range in size from (1 to 15 microns so they are efficiently filtered out. The ceramic filters can be easily cleaned and the filter capacity is measurable.

What's the difference between the Ceridyn and Gravidyn models?

While the Katadyn CERIDYN Drip Filter is good for 13,000 gallons of filtering, the GRAVIDYN filter is good for up to 6 months from time of first use, then you’ll need to replace the filters.

The PLUS about the Gravidyn filter is that the water goes thru the ceramic part which takes out all the bacteria and protozoa etc. The water also goes thru the carbon filter part which will remove chemicals, tastes, etc. The MINUS about the Gravidyn is that you will need to change the filters on the Gravidyn model every 6 months.

The PLUS about the Ceridyn filter is that it can be used for years on the one set of filters because they contain no carbon granules.

Both drip filters are field cleanable, meaning that you can clean it at home and don’t have to send it in to a factory service center. All you have to do is unscrew the nut holding the fiter in the upper container, and then gently scrub each filter under cool running water with the green scrubby pad which is included in the box. If you ever lose your green scrubby pad, it is just like the green ones sold in the grocery store for cleaning dishes.

When buying a water filter for emergency / disaster purposes, it is highly recommended to buy an extra set of filters (buy 3) for your filter. Depending on what you need to remove from your water, you may want to get a set of the CERIDYN filter element (no charcoal) for long term emergency situations. It’s that or get several sets of 3 of the GRAVIDYN filter elements.
