20 2-Quart (1/2 Gallon) Ziplock Mylar Bags + 20 300cc Oxygen Absorbers

This handy Combo Pack gives you
  • 20) 2-quart (½ gallon) Mylar bags with ziplock seals, plus
  • 2) 10-packs of 300 cc oxygen absorbers
The 2-quart size holds 3 lbs of rice, wheat or lentils (or 1 lb of our Dehydrated Vegetable Blend) perfectly. This size bag is great because you can put a variety of things in one bucket. You can customize what you want in each bucket. Some examples:

A “Rice & Beans” bucket
A “Breakfast Items” bucket - oatmeal, raisins, brown sugar, Cream of Wheat, hot cocoa, etc
A “Spahetti Dinners” bucket – pasta in Mylar bags, spaghetti sauce in GLASS jars, Kraft shaky Parmesan cheese
And a “Veggies & Spices” bucket – dehydrated veggie blend, dehydrated minced garlic, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and the spices you use most (see our website for a huge selection of bulk organic spices)

Oxygen absorbers need to be used in 1 hour or less after opening the bag. So get the food into 10 Mylar bags, add one oxygen absorber to each Mylar bags then zip them closed, squishing out what air you can (but DON’T vacuum seal them!). Once the bags are closed up you must seal the outer edge of each Mylar bag – just because they have a ziplock seal they still need to be heat sealed.

Yes, 300cc is a bit of overkill in a 1-quart Mylar bag, but that doesn’t hurt anything. And it’s better to have a bit over-kill rather than “not quite enough” oxygen absorbers. You can seal the Mylar bags with our Optimum Heat Sealer or your clothing iron set to the hottest temperature.

These genuine Mylar bags are FDA Approved for food storage. And we never ever fold our Mylar bags.

PLEASE NOTE: Do not expect all your Mylar bags to look sucked in as if they were vacuum sealed. An oxygen absorber does NOT vacuum seal the bag, it gets rid of the oxygen, leaving all the nitrogen in the bag to protect your food. Sometimes the bags look sucked in, and sometimes they don't. As long as you used the oxygen absorbers in under an hour then you are good.

FoodSaver and Seal-A-Meal vacuum sealers do NOT reach a high enough temperature to seal the multi-layer Mylar foil bags. You will not get a seal that will hold. Those vacuum sealers are designed specifically for the CLEAR single layer plastic bags with a much lower melt-point.

ABOUT US

Optimum Preparedness is a family owned business that has been providing preparedness and self-reliant living products since 1990. That’s over 26 years in the preparedness business. And we have lived and run our business Off The Grid since 1990.

We started storing food for long term storage in 1989. We still have food storage from way back then. (And yes, popcorn we stored in 1989 STILL popped fine in 2012! We also do research and testing on how well different foods store long term.) And now we have food storage done up in Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers. So we can speak from personal experience about all manner of food storage methods. We know what works. If you have questions, we have the answers. Just send us an email.
